“We are playing without two of our top four players and it is going to be like that all year, but at least we won today. The kids played real well,” coach Dave Borelli said. “Seda played through some sickness and our top two kids came through as usual. It was a good team win. We just have to do the best we can and keep our heads above water. Hopefully we will have Mimi (Fotopoulos) back next week when we go to Washington and it is good to see that Millie (Nichols) is feeling better.”

In the battle for the doubles point, SMU was the first one on the board, as the Mustangs won on court three. TCU did not back down and easily won the other two doubles matches to clinch the doubles point. Seda Arantekin and Stefanie Tan took victory first with an 8-2 win on court one, while Simona Parajova and

Monika Sirilova finalized the point with an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles.

Sirilova kept on a roll for the team and was the first to finish in singles by putting TCU ahead 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Macie Elliott on court five.

“Monika is the key,” Borelli said. “Monika has worked harder than anyone on the team for the last month. She hasn’t been able to win a match, but today she played real well. I have a feeling she is going to take off because her tennis level just keeps going up.”

No. 52 Tan took down a ranked opponent in No. 108 Vaszilisza Bulgakova as the junior made quick work of her match with a 6-2, 6-2 win. Parajova sealed the win for the Frogs with a 6-2, 6-2 take down of her own of Hristina Dishkova at No. 2 singles.

The Mustangs’ lone point came at No. 6 singles, as Anna Kate Anderson defeated Tatum Nowlin 6-2, 6-4.

TCU will hit the road next weekend, as the Frogs travel to Seattle, Wash. on Feb. 28-Mar. 1 to take on Sacramento State and Washington. The Frogs will first play Sacramento State on Friday at 1:30 p.m., before taking on Washington at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
