COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — TCU safety Jonathan Anderson has been named a Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in Friday’s 38-28 win over BYU.

Anderson came off the bench to record a team-best and career-high 17 tackles, including 11 solo stops. He also had his first career interception. Anderson had more tackles against BYU than he had in his career (16) entering the contest. His previous high in a game was four stops versus SMU.

A 6-foot-3, 208-pound redshirt freshman from Corpus Christi, Texas, Anderson recorded TCU’s highest tackle effort since 2004, when Martin Patterson totaled 20 stops against USF. It was the third-most tackles by a Horned Frog in the 11-year head coaching tenure of Gary Patterson.

Anderson, a former high school running back, is the second Horned Frog to be an MW Defensive Player of the Week this season. Fellow safety Tekerrein Cuba also received the honor after a 27-14 win at San Diego State (Oct. 8).
