TCU’s Carder Drafted By Buffalo Bills

FORT WORTH, Texas — TCU All-America linebacker Tank Carder was drafted by the Buffalo Bills Saturday in the fifth round of the 2012 National Football League Draft.

Carder becomes the fifth Horned Frog linebacker in the last five seasons to head to the NFL. He is the first TCU player drafted by Buffalo since defensive end Aaron Schobel went in the second round in 2001.

Carder was a two-time All-American in addition to being the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year the last two seasons. He was the 2011 Rose Bowl Defensive Most Valuable Player after TCU’s 21-19 victory over Wisconsin. He broke up the Badgers’ potential game-tying 2-point pass with exactly two minutes to play while recording six tackles in the contest, including three for loss with a sack.

Carder tied for second on TCU with 70 tackles, including 4 1/2 for loss, in 2011. He returned both his picks for scores and is TCU’s career leader with three interception returns for touchdowns.

As a sophomore in 2009, his first year as a starter, Carder placed second on TCU with 89 tackles, including 10 for loss.

Carder’s 228 career stops were the most by a Horned Frog since former linebackers Jason Phillips (315) and Robert Henson (272) concluded their careers in 2008.

TCU posted a 47-5 record in Carder’s four seasons as a Horned Frog.

As TCU’s head coach, Gary Patterson has now had 30 players drafted with a total of 61 in NFL camps.
