FORT WORTH, Texas – Freshman Zahna Medley was honored Thursday afternoon as a unanimous First Team selection to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team.

Medley, who also earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention accolades, led TCU in scoring this season, averaging 12.7 points per game. She currently ranks No. 1 among all league freshmen in scoring and assists. The Illinois native, who earned Big 12 Freshman of the Week accolades four times this season, is currently ranked in the top 20 among all freshmen in the NCAA this season in points per game, while ranking third nationally among freshmen in assists per contest, averaging 4.3. Medley is also the only freshmen in the entire country and the Big 12 to record 13 or more assists in a single-game this season, having accomplished the feat against Oklahoma in January.

Medley has scored in double-figures 10 times in league games this season. She has hit the 20-point mark five times, which is the most of any newcomer in the conference. Medley led TCU in assists in 16 games in league play and has tallied four or more assists in a conference game 12 times, including double-digit assists in two outings. She is the only rookie in the Big 12 to rank in the top 18 overall in scoring and assists.

Medley’s 35 points against Kansas in February were the most in a single-game by a TCU freshman since Tricia Payne connected for 36 points against Lamar in 1998. Overall, Medley is the only newcomer in the entire conference to score 35 or more points in a game this season. She joins Baylor’s Brittney Griner and K-State’s Brittany Chambers as the only players in the Big 12 to record that many points. Only two other freshmen in the entire country have scored more than Medley’s 35 points in a single game.

TCU will open the 2013 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship Friday night when it takes on Kansas. Tip-off is set for 8:30 p.m. CT from the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
