IRVING, Texas – TCU’s Simona Parajova claimed the Big 12 individual championship at No. 3 singles the conference announced Tuesday. The sophomore from Slovakia recorded the conference’s top record at the position in Big 12 play with a 7-2 mark.

Parajova started the conference season with six straight wins at the No. 3 spot, helping the Horned Frogs get off to a subsequent 6-0 start as a team in Big 12 play. After two setbacks, Parajova finished her regular season with a victory over Elizabeth Begley of Texas, 6-3, 7-5 on Sunday.

Parajova has had an outstanding season for the Horned Frogs. The sophomore has a singles record of 16-6 in the spring, and 21-9 overall, both wins totals lead the team. She has spent the majority of 2013 at No. 3 singles, recording a 12-5 record at the spot, but she has stepped up when called upon to move up the lineup with a 1-0 record at No. 1 and a 3-1 mark at No. 2 singles.

To be eligible for a Big 12 individual regular season conference title, a student-athlete must have at least five completed matches at one position. If a student-athlete competes at a higher position in the conference season, it will count towards his or her individual conference record.

TCU’s season will continue Friday at the Big 12 Championships hosted by the University of Oklahoma. The No. 4 seeded Horned Frogs will take on No. 5 seed Oklahoma State at noon.
