Texas Motor Speedway hosts National Dirt Track Championship

FORT WORTH, Texas (Sept. 15, 2010) – The Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track expects to showcase some of the best short-track racing in the country this weekend with its second event of 2010 –  the U.S. National Dirt Track Championship.

The U.S. National Dirt Track Championship features the O’Reilly Auto Parts SUPR (Southern United Professional Racing) Late Model, Modified and Limited Modified divisions and is highlighted with more than 200 competitors from across the nation, including nearly two dozen drivers from the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

The entry list also is highlighted by various former champions, including two-time Texas World Dirt Track O’Reilly Auto Parts SUPR Late Model champ Rob Litton, former TMS Modified champ and Fort Worth native Troy Taylor, and the 2010 Texas World Dirt Track Modified champion Bobby Malchus.

Litton, an Alexandra, La. native, earned the Texas World Dirt Track O’Reilly Auto Parts SUPR Late Model championship in 2006 and ‘09, and finished runner-up in the point standings last season. He currently leads the O’Reilly Auto Parts SUPR Late Model championship by 179 points over Sibley, La., native Kyle Cummings.

Taylor earned the Lone Star Nationals title at TMS in the fall of 2007 and considers races at the TMS Dirt Track the “Super Bowl” of dirt track racing. Taylor is one of a few drivers pulling double-duty for the event, competing in both the Modified and Limited Modified divisions.

“The reason the TMS Dirt Track is so competitive is because its prestige draws the best of the best drivers from all over,” Taylor said. “It’s no doubt the biggest and most exciting races for us. I know what it feels like to win in one division and I can’t even put into perspective what a double-feature win would feel like. I would imagine it would be a big party.”

The action begins Friday with heat races and “B” and “C” qualifiers for the Modified and Limited Modified divisions. Racing continues Saturday with additional Modified and Limited Modified qualifying races, O’Reilly Auto Parts SUPR Late Model heats, the Modified Pole Dash, the Limited Modified Pole Dash and championship races in all three series.

In the spirit of Texas Motor Speedway’s new “No Limits” marketing campaign, fans will no longer have to pay individual prices as Texas Motor Speedway will charge by the carload with $10 for Friday’s activities and $15 for Saturday. That is compared to the previous individual pricing of $10 for adults and $5 for kids Friday, and $15 for adults and $10 for kids Saturday.
