Wings Beat Storm

Aerial Powers came off the bench to score 19 points and drained the go-ahead 3-point basket with 54 seconds left to lead the Dallas Wings to an 83-78 victory over the Seattle Storm on Thursday in WNBA action at Seattle.

Courtney Paris had 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Karima Christmas also scored 12 points for Dallas (8-9). Glory Johnson contributed 11 points and nine rebounds before fouling out as the Wings halted a two-game slide.

Jewell Loyd scored 24 points and Breanna Stewart added 17 for the Storm (6-10). Stewart averaged 29.3 points over the previous four contests before making just six of 15 shots against Dallas.

Back-to-back baskets by Powers and Johnson gave Dallas a 72-69 lead with 6:01 remaining. The Storm caught the Wings at 73-73 on two free throws by Alysha Clark with 3:11 to play.

A three-point play by Johnson pushed Dallas back in the lead, and Seattle’s Sue Bird answered with a tying 3-pointer with 2:18 remaining. Crystal Langhorne hit two free throws to give the Storm a 78-76 lead with 1:17 left before Powers drained her key 3-pointer.

Dallas’ Odyssey Sims made two free throws with 12.6 seconds left and Skylar Diggins added two more with 3.7 seconds remaining to wrap up the victory.

Loyd and Stewart had 11 points apiece in the first half as Seattle led 46-44 at the break.

Sims drained a 3-pointer to cap an 8-0 run and give the Wings a 29-23 lead early in the second quarter. Dallas held a five-point lead later in the stanza before Bird made two 3-pointers during a 10-0 burst that gave Seattle a 41-36 lead.
