Wings Defeat Storm

Karima Christmas and Odyssey Sims led a balanced scoring attack with 17 points each as the Dallas Wings ended a six-game losing streak with an 88-79 victory over the Seattle Storm Thursday night at the College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.

The Storm, led by forward Breanna Stewart’s 29 points and six rebounds, finished their four-game road swing 1-3 and are 4-8 overall.

Also contributing for Dallas (4-6) were center Courtney Paris (13 points and 10 rebounds) and forward Aerial Powers (13 points). Guard Skylar Diggins and forward Plenette Pierson each had nine points and forward Glory Johnson finished with 10 for Dallas.

The Wings outscored Seattle 14-5 between the third and fourth quarters to take control of the game.

After Seattle tied the game at 49 with 5:29 left in the third quarter, Dallas went on an 11-2 run highlighted by two layups by Paris in transition.

The Wings’ lead grew to 67-57 by the end of the third quarter behind seven consecutive points by forward Aerial Powers, who fueled the 7-2 run to close the period. Dallas started the fourth quarter on a 7-3 spurt to take a 74-60 lead with 8:07 left in the game.

Seattle managed to cut the lead to 85-79 with 33.4 seconds remaining on two free throws by Stewart. After Johnson made one of two free throw attempts with 31.2 seconds left, Sims made two free throws with 20 seconds remaining to put the game out of reach.

Dallas was coming off a game with 15 three-pointers at New York on Tuesday. The Wings managed to make only 4 of 17 from beyond the arc against Seattle. They took advantage of 19 turnovers by the Storm and won the rebounding battle 35-24.
