Wings Win 4th Straight

Plenette Pierson scored 21 points, including six in overtime, as the Dallas Wings garnered their fourth straight win and pulled to .500 on the season with a 97-90 victory over the San Antonio Stars on Thursday.

San Antonio trailed 16 points at the half and by six points late in the game before a jumper by the Stars’ Jayne Appel-Marinelli with 14.5 seconds to play tied the game at 83-83 and sent it into overtime.

Dallas scored the first six points of the overtime period and led 93-86 after a Pierson banked jumper with 2:14 to play. But San Antonio refused to back down, cutting the lead to 93-90 at the 1:06 mark when Kayla Alexander rebounded her own miss and scored on a layup.

The Wings’ Skylar Diggins and Odyssey Sims then iced the game with a pair of free throws each in the final 10 seconds.

Diggins and Simms added 19 points apiece for Dallas (7-7), while Karima Christmas hit for 17 points and Glory Johnson scored 11 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.

Kayla McBride and Dearica Hamby led the Stars (2-11) with 18 points each. Alexander had 13 points and Moriah Jefferson and Monique Curry added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Stars clawed their way back into the game in the third quarter. Two Jefferson free throws with 5.6 seconds to play in the period got San Antonio to within 66-61, and the Stars scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter to assume a 69-61 lead.

The Wings knotted the game at 69-69 on a Diggins 3-pointer with 7:34 to play and retook the lead on a pair of Diggins free throws 30 seconds later. Sims hit a jumper with 4:59 to play to put Dallas up by six points but San Antonio answered continually down the stretch.
