2009 IndyCar Series Begins

Ryan Briscoe won the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg to start the 2009 season of the IndyCar Series.  The Team Penske driver celebrated his 3rd career victory after leading 46 of 100 laps.

Ryan Hunter-Reay, in his first start for Vision Racing, finished second, less than half a second behind Briscoe. It is the best finish ever for Vision Racing. 

Justin Wilson finished third, after leading 52 laps. This was also the best finish ever for Dale Coyne Racing, in Wilson’s first start for the team.

Briscoe passed Wilson in Turn 1 after a restart on Lap 86 and Hunter-Reay got by Wilson in Turn 4.

Rounding out the top-5 were Dario Franchitti in his return to the IndyCar Series and Tony Kanaan.
