2009 US Open Day 11

There are American champions at the US Open after all. The mixed doubles team of Carly Gullickson and Travis Parrott won the championship over the team of Cara Black and Leander Paes.

The women’s doubles team of Venus and Serena Williams advanced to the final round with a close win over Alisa Kleybanova and Ekaterina Makarova.

#6 Juan Martin Del Potro advanced to his first Grand Slam semifinal with a 4 set win over #16 Marin Cilic.

#3 Rafael Nadal was looking shaky at the start of his quarterfinal match with Fernando Gonzalez, taking a tiebreak to win the opening set and calling for the trainer before rain forced a delay.  Nadal came back from the delay noticably improved and noticebly more bandaged. Gonzalez kept fighting, taking the second set into a tiebreak when the rain came again. The match was postponed until Friday.
