2009 US Open Day 5

The men’s draw continues to go almost as planned.  The top seeds continue to win. #2 Andy Murray and #3 Rafael Nadal were both in action and both won to advance to the 3rd round.  Also winning were #6 Juan Martin Del Potro, #7 Jo Wilfried Tsonga, and #9 Gilles Simon.

The only seeded players that lost were #18 David Ferrer and #30 Viktor Troicki.

On the women’s side, #2 Serena Williams and #3 Venus Williams both continued to win with ease. These players should be ranked #1 and #1a at any Grand Slam.

#7 Vera Zvonareva won easily over #31 Elena Vesnina and #10 Flavia Pennetta rolled into the 4th round.

#8 Victoria Azarenka was upset in 3 sets by #26 Francesca Schiavone.
