2009 US Open Day 6

It was a day of surprises again at the US Open.  American favorite #5 Andy Roddick was upset by another American, John Isner in an epic 5-set match that came down to a tiebreak.

Another American, James Blake, was ousted by Tommy Robredo, and the #1 woman, Dinara Safina, lost to Petra Kvitova. Safina will continue to hear the criticism that she has never won a Grand Slam event.

But the real shocker of the day was Melanie Oudin, who continued her amazing run by beating Maria Sharapova. Oudin, the 17 year old sensation from Atlanta, had already knocked off the #4 player and now has spoiled Sharapova’s comeback.

Lost in the discussion were #1 Roger Federer, #4 Novak Djokovic, #8 Nikolay Davydenko, and #10 Fernando Verdasco all winning.

For the women, #6 Svetlana Kuznetsova and #9 Caroline Wozniacki advanced to the 4th round.
