2010 Australian Open Day 4

After Wednesday’s epic matches, Day 4 seemed almost relaxing at the Australian Open. Of the 22 seeded men that played, 21 advanced to the next round.  The one that didn’t gave us the most exciting match of the day.

Marcos Baghdatis came from 2 sets down to overcome cramps and no. 17 David Ferrer in a 4 hour 5-set thriller.  Baghdatis was clearly running on emotion as he limped his way to victory.

No. 1 Roger Federer made a statement in his straight set win over Victor Hanescu, taking only 99 minutes and hitting 52 winners.

Other top-10 players advancing included Novak Djokovic (3), Nikolay Davydenko (6), Fernando Verdasco (9) and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (10).

For the women, no. 1 Serena Williams took little time advancing, as did her sister, no. 6 Venus. Caroline Wosniacki (4), Victoria Azarenka (7), Vera Zvonareva (9) and Agnieszka Radwanska (10) each won their 2nd round matches.

Ana Ivanovic (20) continued her downward spiral, losing to Gisele Dulko in three sets. Also upset was no. 21 Sabine Lisicki.
