2010 Australian Open Day 5

It wasn’t the biggest upset of the day, not even the 2nd, but it was the most shocking.  US Open Champion Kim Clijsters (15) was demolished by Nadia Petrova (19) 6-0, 6-1. It was the worst beating of Clijsters professional career. Petrova, who has been ranked as high as 3 in the world, played an almost flawless game, while Clijsters hit only 5 winners to go with 26 unforced errors.

Other upsets included Jelena Jankovic (8) losing to Alona Bondarenko (31), and Marion Bartoli (11) falling to unseeded Jie Zheng.

Officially an upset, but expected, was unseeded former no. 1 Justine Henin over Alisa Kleybanova (27).

Winners included no. 2 Dinara Safina and no. 3 Svetlana Kuznetsova.

For the men, it was a good day for Americans.  Andy Roddick (7) overcame a 1st set deficit to beat Feliciano Lopez . Big John Isner (33) upset Gael Monfils (12) in 4 sets.

No. 2 Rafael Nadal and no. 4 Juan Martin Del Potro each took 4 sets to advance, while no. 5 Andy Murray continued his march in straight sets.
