2010 French Open Day 5

If Day 4 was easy for the seeded men, Day 5 made up for it.  With multiple rain delays, some matches were postponed, others started and stopped and started and stopped.  Both No. 4 Andy Murray and No. 6 Andy Roddick needed 4 sets to advance, while Frenchman Gael Monfils fell in 4 sets to Fabio Fognini.

Roddick advanced for the second time following a substandard game.  The usually dominant server was broken 7 times over 4 sets.  Roddick can only hope the conditions change so the court will be faster, thus better suited to his power game.

No. 2 Rafael Nadal’s match was postponed due to rain.

For the women, No. 4 Jelena Jankovic and No. 5 Elena Dementieva both advanced.   No. 8 Agnieszka Radwanska lost in straight sets, as did No. 21 Vera Zvonareva.  No. 1 Serena Williams was rained out.

No. 12 Maria Sharapova, No. 13 Marion Bartoli, and No. 22 Justine Henin all have matches suspended.
