2010 French Open Day 8

No. 1 Roger Federer advanced to the quarter-finals with a straight set win over No. 20 Stanislas Wawrinka.  Wawrinka put up a fight against his friend and sometimes doubles partner, but Federer would not be denied.

The upset of the day involved No. 4 Andy Murray losing to No.15 Tomas Berdych in straight sets.

No. 5 Robin Soderling cruises to a win over No. 10 Marin Cilic.

The giveaway of the day was No. 8 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga retiring due to injury after losing the first set to Mikhail Youzhny (11).

The big news for the women is the loss by No. 2 Venus Williams to Nadia Petrova in straight sets.

No. 3 Caroline Wozniacki won a difficult match against No. 14 Flavia Pennetta.  Veteran Elena Dementieva advances to the quarter-finals by defeating fellow Russian Chanelle Scheepers.

Justine Henin (22) finished off Maria Sharapova (12) in a battle of former champions.
