2011 Australian Open – Day 4
|Players at the top keep rolling at the 2011 Australian Open. All but one (Sam Querrey) of the top 16 men have moved into the 3rd round.
No. 1 Rafael Nadal only lost a total of 4 games in his 2nd round match. Nadal has yet to face any opposition. No. 4 Robin Soderling and No. 5 Andy Murray each won in straight sets as well, as did No. 7 David Ferrer. Ferrer’s victory came at the expense of American Michael Russell. No. 10 Mikhail Youzhny had a struggle, requiring 5 sets to advance past Blaz Kavcic of Slovakia. John Isner (20) of the USA also needed 5 sets to get past Radek Stepanek.
For the women, No. 2 Vera Zvonareva dropped a set against Bojana Jovanovski. No. 3 Kim Clisters continued to dominate, easily winning in straight sets as did No. 5 Samantha Stosur, the hometown Australian.
No. 7 Jelena Jankovic is another former No. 1 who is struggling. Jankovic lost to unseeded Shuai Peng in straight sets. The reeling Jankovic has now lost 7 of her last 8 matches.
No. 10 Shahar Peer had little trouble in her win over Sorana Cirstea.
