2011 Australian Open – Day 7

America’s hopes in Australia goes down the drain as Andy Roddick (8) is ousted by Stanislas Wawrinka (19) in straight sets.  Wawrinka appeared to play beyond himself as he 67 winners and 24 aces.  Roddick only made 19 unforced errors, but was no match for the onslaught of shots from Wawrinka.

No. 2 Roger Federer dropped a set in an otherwise easy win over Tommy Robredo.  No. 3 Novak Djokovic continues to look sharp in his dominating win over Nicolas Almagro (14).   Tomas Berdych (6) won in straight sets over Fernando Verdasco (9).

For the women, No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki continues to win, perhaps marching toward her first Grand Slam title.

Two former French Open champions battled for the longest women’s grand slam match ever, before Francesca Schiavone (6) finally prevailed with a 16-14 final set victory over Svetlana Kuznetsova (23).

China’s Na Li (9) defeated Victoria Azarenka (8) in straight sets.

In one of the biggest upsets of the tournament, Andrea Petkovic (30) easily beat Maria Sharapova (14).
