Couples leads 2010 Masters Round 1

Augusta, GA – Fred Couples recorded the best round of his career at Augusta National today with a 66.  At -6 he has a one-stroke lead over 5 players, K.J. Choi, Tom Watson, Lee Westwood, Phil Mickelson, and Y.E. Yang.  Tiger Woods returned to action with a solid 68.

If Couples holds on to win, he would become the oldest major champion in history.  The oldest player in the field, Tom Watson, also shot his career best at Augusta, (5-under 67).  His son Michael is caddying for him.  Watson has not made the cut at the Masters since 2002.

Also tied for 2nd with 67 is Phil Mickelson, his best 1st round score since 2001.

After a 5-month absence, Tiger Woods returns with his best 1st-round score at the Masters.  Woods is tied for 7th with a 4 under par 68.  In 15 previous Masters, Woods best opening round score was 70.
