DGD17060743_Cowboys_OTADallas Cowboys rookie cornerback Jourdan Lewis will stand trial next week on one charge of domestic violence.
Lewis and his attorney made it clear that they intend to fight the charge during a pretrial hearing on Thursday morning.
“Some cases have to be tried,” Lewis’ attorney John Shea said, via ESPN. “This is one of them.”
The 21-year-old Lewis was charged with the misdemeanor in March after a late-night altercation with a woman who was his girlfriend at the time. The woman told police that Lewis grabbed her by the neck and held her to the floor before leaving the apartment they shared.
Lewis contends that any contact he had with the woman was in a bid to leave the apartment.
The trial will begin Monday in the 15th district court in Ann Arbor, Mich. Shea said he hopes the trial will be finished by the end of the day Tuesday.
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Lewis, who was selected by Dallas in the third round of the NFL draft, was the Big 10 defensive back of the year in 2016 with Michigan.
