Cowboys Hopeful For Healthy Romo

By all accounts, Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has shown no signs of being limited following a procedure on his left collarbone earlier this offseason to strengthen a fracture that cost him 12 games in 2015.

Tight end coach Jason Witten said Romo is throwing the ball as well as he ever had.

Scouting guru Gil Brandt stopped by OTAs and said Romo is throwing the ball well and looking like he is ready for the season.

“He does look really good. His tempo, the energy he is bringing, everything he is doing at the line of scrimmage, he looks really well,” Witten said. “That excites us to see him back healthy, even better than what he was before. I know he’s worked really hard to get to that point.”

Romo is not ready to get excited about offseason practice, though he called last season an anomaly, when he played in only four games fracturing his collarbone twice.

“I understand where I’m at in my career and I also understand that I was hurt and banged up last year,” Romo said. “It’s a collarbone, you know? I don’t think my collarbone is going to be anything that takes you out every year you play football.”

Romo thinks he is throwing the ball well but he downplayed the significance of it at this point in the offseason.

“I don’t think anything matters until you actually play football games,” Romo said. “No one actually cares at this time of year what’s going on because they don’t see you. For us as football players, we can tell when we take a step or improve. I’m just excited about what I feel like is an improvement in some areas and that makes you excited to play football games. We’ll see what happens, but I think we’re going to have a good chance.

“I’ve got a long ways to go, but it’s a good start. And that’s all it is right now — a good start.
