Cowboys Mauled By Bears

The Dallas Cowboys have a beautiful stadium.  Just ask the tens of thousands of Chicago fans who watched their Bears dominate the Cowboys 34-18 on Monday night.  Dallas continues to lose at home when they are in the national spotlight.  Since moving into their new home, the team has compiled just a 14-12 record, hardly worthy of the $1.2 billion price tag.

Tony Romo matched a career-high 5 interceptions in the contest.  He threw more touchdowns to the opposing team than to his own players.  Still, Romo cannot be blamed for everything, as his receivers continue to drop passes between the numbers.   Dez Bryant dropped at least one sure touchdown and appeared to run incorrect routes much of the night.  Bryant was targeted on 13 plays, but ended the night with 8 catches for 105 yards.

Tight end Jason Witten was back to his hall of fame form, catching 13 passes for 112 yards and a touchdown.  Former SMU standout Cole Beasley made his NFL stats debut, catching 2 passes for 14 yards in late-game action.

The Cowboys never got a running game started, rushing only 14 times the

entire game for 41 yards.  Head coach Jason Garrett either doesn’t trust the running game or doesn’t have the patience to establish it.  Pass-first has always been his preference and it appears the opposing defenses know it.

The offensive line for the Cowboys has been a week spot for Dallas the entire season and there are no signs they will get any better.  The only bright spot was there were no false start or holding penalties on the Cowboys, a first for the season.

The Cowboys defense took a huge step backward.  Even though the Chicago line is arguably the weakest spot on the team, Dallas could not put any pressure on quarterback Jay Cutler.  Cutler completed 18 of 24 passes for a rating of 140.1, easily one of the best games of his career.

When the Bears weren’t moving the chains with the pass, they were getting first downs rushing.  The Bears rushed 28 times, twice the number of Cowboys attempts.

Chicago receiver Brandon Marshall exploited Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr for 138 yards on 7 catches.

Dallas has a week off to recover from this whipping before facing the Ravens in Baltimore.
