The Dallas Cowboys defeated the Pittsburg Steelers 27-24 in overtime Sunday afternoon at Cowboys Stadium. A raucous crowd of terrible towel twirling Steeler fans fell deathly silent as Dan Bailey’s 21-yard field goal split the uprights for the Cowboys’ win.
The Cowboys rallied from a 24-17 deficit late in the 4th quarter after Victor Butler gave Dallas the momentum when he forced a fumble by Antonio Brown on a punt return. Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo led Dallas down the field to set up Demarco Murray’s 3-yard touchdown run which evened the game at 24-24.
On the second play of overtime, after receiving the ball, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw a sideline pass intended for Mike Wallace. Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr intercepted the pass and returned it to the 1-yard line, setting up the winning field goal.
Dallas quarterback Tony Romo earned a 111.3 quarterback rating by completing 30 of 42 passes for 341 yards and 2 touchdowns. Receiver Dez Bryant played with an injured finger and extended his touchdown streak to 6 games, catching 4 passes for 59 yards and a score.
Miles Austin was the featured receiver for the Cowboys, grabbing 7 receptions for 79 yards. Tight end Jason Witten caught 8 for 43 yards and a touchdown.
Running back Demarco Murray gained 81 yards on 14 carries.
The Cowboys have won 5 of the last six and stand tied for the NFC lead with a record of 8-6. If Dallas wins next week against New Orleans and beats the Redskins in Washington, they will win the division.
