Fit for a Queen at Wimbledon

For the 1st time in over 30 years, the Queen of England was in attendance at Wimbledon.  Amid the pomp and circumstance, she shared the spotlight with an American and a Frenchman.

John Isner and Nicolas Mahut finally finished the longest tennis match in history.  After 3 days, with over 11 hours of playing, American John Isner finally converted a break point and won the 5th set 70-68.  The 5th set alone was over 8 hours, the set alone was longer than any previous match.  Multiple records were shattered during the match, including the number of aces, Isner with 112 and Mahut with 103.

The Queen, after having lunch with some of the players such as Roger Federer and Venus Williams, went to the royal box to observe the match between Brit Andy Murray and Jarkko Nieminen.  Murray, the 4th seed, came out on top in straight sets.

Quietly on court today was Rafael Nadal (2), who needed 5 sets to defeat Robin Haase.  Robin Soderling (6), David Ferrer (9) and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (10) each advanced as well.

The ladies were also in action, as Serena Williams (1) dominated Anna Chakvetadze and Caroline Wozniacki (3) defeated Kai-Chen Chang.  Agniezska Radwanska (7), Na Li (9), and Flavia Pennetta (10) each advanced.
