Former Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent was released from jail on Sunday, according to the Dallas County sheriff’s office.

Brent, 26, was convicted of intoxication manslaughter in January.

In December 2012, Brent drunken car crash killed his friend and teammate, Jerry Brown. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail and 10 years’ probation.

It is not clear if Brent will have to report to a treatment facility to complete his sentence, which was expected to end in July.

Brent crashed his Mercedes sedan on a suburban Dallas highway after leaving a nightclub with Brown as a passenger.

Brent had a blood-alcohol content level of 0.18 percent, more than two times the legal limit in Texas.

Brent faced up to 20 years in prison for the conviction but Brown’s mother, Stacey Jackson, testified that she forgave Brent and the sentence was reduced.

The two former Cowboys were also college teammates at Illinois.

Brent was a regular on the roster while Brown, a linebacker, was on the practice squad.

The Cowboys later released Brent and he retired before his trial in January. He could return to the NFL but it is not clear if he will or not.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has said he is supportive of Brent and has not ruled out bringing him back. Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee attended part of Brent’s trial.
