Irving-Based WTT Franchise Gets Name

IRVING, Texas (February 11, 2013) – The newest Mylan World TeamTennis franchise announced today it has completed its public naming campaign and has a new team name, Texas Wild.

The Irving-based team will compete in Mylan World TeamTennis presented by GEICO which showcases the best in professional team tennis competition, playing an innovative coed team format over a three-week season in July. Co- founded by Billie Jean King in the 1970s and based on a concept of gender equity, Mylan WTT offers unique access to the sport and some of its greatest champions who have played over the past 38 seasons.

“We are extremely grateful to our fans and the creativity they brought to this naming campaign,” said Jeff Launius, Co-Owner and General Manager. The Texas Wild name came through loud and clear as a fan favorite in the fan voting,” he added.

Now that the new team has a name, it will announce its logo, venue and marquee players later in the week.

The Texas Wild will draft second in the Mylan WTT Marquee Draft, which will be held at noon ET on Tuesday, February 12. The team also hopes to announce its playing venue and the team logo later this week.

The 2013 season of Mylan World TeamTennis runs during July in eight U.S. markets. The Texas Wild will play in the Western Conference along with the Orange County Breakers (Irvine, Calif.); Sacramento Capitals (Sacramento, Calif.) and the Springfield Lasers (Springfield, Mo.). The Eastern Conference includes the 2012 Champion Washington Kastles (Washington, D.C.), Boston Lobsters (Boston, Mass.), New York Sportimes (Albany, N.Y. / New York, N.Y.) and the Philadelphia Freedoms (Villanova, Pa.).
