Kidd hot as Mavs win playoff game 1

The Dallas Mavericks took game 1 of the playoff series against the Portland Trail Blazers by a score of 89-81.  It was an action-packed ending as Dallas gave up a 10-point advantage to trail by 6.  Dallas trailed, 72-66, but closed the game on a 23-9 run en route to an 89-81 win. Dirk Nowitzki had 14 of the 23 points scored during the Mavericks’ run.

Dirk Nowitzki managed his 66th career postseason double-double with a game-high 28 points and 10 rebounds. He had just eight points at the half, but tallied 18 in the fourth quarter alone (and shot 13-of-13 at the line in the fourth). He ranks 20th all-time in playoff double-doubles.

Jason Kidd went 6-of-10 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points for Dallas on Saturday. He set a career-high for 3-pointers in a playoff game (previous five on four occasions). It was the 30th time he’s managed 20-plus points in a playoff game in his career. His season-high in 2010-11 was 21 points (vs. Lakers 1/19/11).

Kidd and Nowitzki combined for 52 of the Mavericks’ 89 points in the win. Jason Terry (10) was the only other Maverick in double figures.

Game 2 vs. Portland is Tuesday at 8:30 p.m.
