Lee Westwood wins St. Jude Classic

Memphis – Lee Westwood won the St. Jude Classic with a playoff victory over Robert Garrigus and Robert Carlsson.  Westwood birdied the 4th playoff hole for the win.

Westwood becomes the first player to receive a sponsor’s exemption and win on the PGA TOUR since Jason Gore did so at the 2005 84 LUMBER Classic.  He becomes the first European to win the St. Jude Classic, snapping the streak of 11 straight American winners at the event.  Westwood’s win is the 6th by an international player in the last 7 events on the PGA TOUR.  Zach Johnson at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial is the only American to win during that stretch.

Karlsson’s runner-up finish is his best in 64 career starts on the TOUR.

Local amateur Jordan Spieth, playing his first event since the HP Byron Nelson Championship, did not make the cut.
