Mavericks are NBA Champions

The Dallas Mavericks are finally champions.  After failing in the NBA Finals in 2006 and struggling in the playoffs since then, Dallas got sweet revenge by defeating the Miami Heat 105-95 and winning the series 4 games to 2.

Dirk Nowitzki got off to a slow start, shooting only 1 for 12 in the first half.  Nowitzki showed his worth in the 2nd half to finish the game with 21 points and 11 rebounds.  Nowitzki was named the MVP of the playoffs.

Jason Terry could have been named MVP of this game, Terry led all scorers with 27 points and helped the Mavericks lead at halftime while Nowitzki was struggling.  Terry, coming off the bench, outscored the entire Miami bench 27-20.

J.J. Barea scored 15 for the Mavs and Shawn Marion scored 12.  Barea’s layup with 10:40 remaining in the 2nd quarter put the Mavericks in the lead for good.

Miami’s LeBron James scored 21 points, but was held to only 7 in the 4th period.  Dwyane Wade hit only 6 of 20 attempts for the Heat, finishing with 17 points.  Chris Bosh scored 19 for Miami.

Dallas coach Rick Carlisle praised the team spirit of the Mavs. “This is a true team,” Carlisle said. “This is an old bunch. We don’t run fast or jump high. These guys had each other’s backs. We played the right way. We trusted the pass. This is a phenomenal thing for the city of Dallas.”
