Mavs Beat Clippers 96-92

The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Los Angeles Clippers 96-92 Monday night at the American Airlines Center.  It is the Maverick’s 4th straight victory.  Dallas’ longest winning streak this season lasted five games from 1/7/12 vs. New Orleans to 1/14/12 vs. Sacramento.  With the victory on Monday, the Mavericks recorded their 10th straight win over the Clippers at home. The Clippers have not defeated the Mavericks in Dallas since 4/19/06. Dallas has now won 17 of the last 19 regular-season meetings with Los Angeles.

Dallas’ defense had stops on 12 of the last 16 possessions down the stretch in the fourth quarter. The Mavericks held the Clippers to just 16 points in the fourth quarter, which tied a season-low. Los Angeles shot 5-of-15 (.333) from the field in the fourth. The Mavericks forced seven turnovers in the game’s final period.

Dirk Nowizki (22), Shawn Marion (16), Brendan Haywood (10), Vince Carter (10) and Delonte West (10) all scored in double figures for the Mavericks in the win. Lamar Odom and Jason Terry also pitched in nine points apiece off the bench. The Mavericks have now had five players in double digits in four of their last five games. Dallas improved to 11-3 when it has five-plus players in double figures with the win over the Clippers.

Mavericks center Brendan Haywood recorded 10 of Dallas’ 27 first-quarter points and six of the Mavericks’ nine first-quarter rebounds. He finished with 10 points (5-6 FGs) and a game-high-tying nine boards, coming one rebound shy of his second double-double.

Dallas point guard Jason Kidd appeared in his 1,286th career game (1,273rd start) against the Clippers on Monday and is now tied with former Maverick Sam Perkins for 13th place on the all-time list for games played.

The Mavericks’ next game is vs. Denver on Feb. 15 at 7:30 p.m. CT.
