The Mavericks have struggled with keeping up a lead in the third quarter. This was a challenge that Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said the team needed to try to overcome.

“This is one of those situations where you have to step up to the challenge, and we just didn’t do it,” said Carlisle, “The problem is we couldn’t guard these guys. We didn’t guard them, and that’s got to change …”

Dirk Nowitzki had a low in the game being held to only 8 points in the game after a tremendous stretch of four games averaging 21.2 points. Guard O.J. Mayo led the Mavericks with 16 poins and Shawn Marion came close to a double-double with 14 points and eight rebounds.
