Mavs Quiet Thunder 100-87

The Dallas Mavericks handed the Oklahoma City Thunder their first loss of the season Monday night with a 100-87 victory at the American Airlines Center.  Oklahoma City entered Monday’s game owning a 5-0 record. The Mavericks ended six winning streaks that lasted at least five games in 2010-11, including the Thunder’s five-game winning streak at Oklahoma City on 11/24/10.

With a 10-foot step-back jumper at the 7:40 mark of the second quarter, Dirk Nowitzki recorded his 8,000th career regular-season made field goal. He became the 31st player in NBA history to reach the milestone. It was his fourth basket of the game and he finished 10-of-16 from the floor en route to a teamhigh 26 points.

Vince Carter had 12 points midway through the second quarter of tonight’s game. His season-high going into Monday’s contest against the Thunder was 11 (vs. Denver 12/26/11). Carter finished with 14 points, two rebounds and three assists in 24 minutes off the bench.

Ian Mahinmi registered 10 points and nine boards in 21 minutes, falling one rebound shy of his second career double-double. He is averaging 11.7 points and 6.0 rebounds over the last three games.

Jason Kidd dished out a season-high nine assists against Oklahoma City on Monday. The entire Thunder team combined for just 12 assists in the game.

The Mavericks’ bench outscored the Thunder’s bench, 47-25, on Monday. Jason Terry (15), Vince Carter (14) and Ian Mahinmi (10) all scored in double figures off the pine for Dallas.

The Mavericks next game is vs. Phoenix on Jan. 4 at 7:30 p.m. CT.
