Mavs Reach Milestones In Victory Over Suns

The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Phoenix Suns 110-95 Sunday night at the American Airlines Center.   With the victory, the Mavericks have now won six of their last eight games.

Mavericks forward Shawn Marion appeared in his 1,000th career regular-season game against the Suns on Sunday. He became the 107th player in NBA history to reach the milestone. Marion played in 660 games with Phoenix from 1999-2008.  Marion recorded a game-high-tying 18 points to go along with a game-high nine rebounds, five assists and one steal in 30 minutes against the Suns on Sunday.

With a jumper at the 5:38 mark of the third quarter, Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki passed Allen Iverson (24,368) for 18th place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. The basket gave Nowitzki 13 points for the game (and 24,370 for his career). Patrick Ewing ranks 17th on the NBA’s all-time scoring list with 24,815 career points.  Nowitzki tallied a game-high-tying 18 points to go along with seven rebounds in 30 minutes against Phoenix.   Nowitzki, who scored a season-high 20 points on two occasions this year, totaled 18-plus points for the sixth time this season.

Mavericks guard O.J. Mayo dished out a team-high six assists against Phoenix. His

fourth assist of the game (at the 9:22 mark of the third quarter) was the 1,000th assist of his career.

Mavericks big man Elton Brand appeared in his 900th career regular-season game and recorded 12 points (6-10 FGs) in 17 minutes off the bench. He scored in double figures for the sixth time in his last seven games (14th time this season). Brand is averaging 12.1 points and 8.6 rebounds over his last seven games.

Darren Collison managed eight points to go along with five assists and two steals against the Suns. It snapped his career-long streak of 16 consecutive double-figure scoring games (12/23/12-1/25/13). His previous high double-figure scoring streak was 15 straight games from 2/5-3/8/10.

Mavericks center Bernard James made his first career start against the Suns on Sunday and managed two points and three rebounds in 11 minutes. The Mavericks used their 17th different starting lineup of the year (in their 44th game of the season).

Mavericks swingman Vince Carter managed 15 points off the bench. He scored 15-plus points for the fourth consecutive game and is averaging 19.0 points per game over the last four games.

Dahntay Jones contributed 11 points off the bench. It was his fourth double-figure scoring game of the year.

The Mavericks recorded their 10th consecutive victory against the Suns at home. The Suns have not defeated the Mavericks in Dallas since 3/14/07 when they recorded a 129-127 double-overtime win.

The Mavericks scored 100-plus points for the eighth consecutive game. Dallas is averaging 110.1 points per game on 47.5 percent shooting over its last eight games.

The Mavericks outshot the Suns 49 percent (24-of-49) to 38.1 percent (16-of-42) from the field in the first half and led by 15 (57-42) at the half. Dallas outscored Phoenix 30-18 in the paint in the first half.

Dallas outshot Phoenix 50 percent (11-of-22) to 28.6 percent (6-of-21) from the field in the second quarter.

The Mavericks’ next game is at Portland on Jan. 29 at 9:00 p.m. CT
