If there were any doubts about the Mavericks being playoff contenders, their game on Monday made one big statement. The season isn’t over.

The Mavericks defeated the MInnesota Timberwolves 113-98 on Monday in a game that the Mavericks controlled from start to finish. The Mavericks are currently on a three game winning streak and look more comfortable with Dirk Nowitzki coming back from injury.

The Mavericks are currently 16-23 and are in 12th place in the Western Conference, 5 spots out of playoff contention. They hope that their balanced offense approach will help spark more victories.

“We’re playing with more familiarity with one another, with more familiarity with the system. Our reads are better. We’ve been doing some good things in that area,” said Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle,” The challenge is continuing.”

Guards O.J. Mayo and Darren Collison led the balanced play of the Mavericks contributing 9 assists each as they found open shots that helped the Mavs shoot 59.7 percent overall, the hightest percentage that Minnesota has allowed all season.

“I felt like we were going to attack,” said Collison, who finished the game with a game-high 23 points and 9 assists.

Mark Cuban’s offseason decisions may turn into ones of a genius as this game was led by the Collison, Mayo, and Elton Brand, the Mavericks three top offseason acquisitions. Mayo and Brand helped finish the game for the Mavericks scoring 20 points each.

The Mavericks look to keep up the streak as they takeon the Houston Rockets on Wednesday. Tip-off is in Dallas at 7:00 p.m.
