Mavs Win In OT vs Spurs

The Dallas Mavericks outlasted the San Antonio Spurs 101-100 in overtime Sunday night at the American Airlines Center.  With the win, the Mavericks (13-8) took a one-game lead over the Spurs (12-9) in the Southwest Division standings. The Rockets (12-8) sit a half-game back of Dallas in the division.

Mavericks guard Jason Terry scored a season-high 34 points (14-23 FGs, 1-3 3FGs, 5-5 FTs) against the Spurs on Sunday (previous high 23 vs. Miami on 12/25/11). He hit a jumper with 0.5 seconds remaining that tied the game at 91 and forced overtime. Terry also scored Dallas’ final four points in overtime to propel the Mavericks to a 101-100 victory. Terry led Dallas in scoring for the seventh time this season.

Vince Carter made his sixth start of the season and led Dallas with 14 first-half points on 6-of-8 shooting. He scored 10 of Dallas’ first 16 points in the contest. Carter finished with a season-high 21 points (8-15 FGs, 2-5 3FGs, 3-3 FTs) to go along with three rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block in a season-high 31 minutes.

Dirk Nowitzki returned to the starting lineup for Dallas after missing four games with a sore right knee and recorded his second double-double of the season (360th career) with 10 points and a season-high 13 rebounds in 38 minutes.

Rodrigue Beaubois tallied 14 points, seven assists and three blocks. He is averaging 18.0 points per game, 7.0 assists per game and 3.5 blocks per game over his last two games (two starts).

The Mavericks’ next game is at Phoenix on Jan. 30 at 8:00 p.m. CT.
