DENTON, Texas – Mean Green tennis won its third straight match when it defeated Louisiana-Lafayette, 6-1, on Sunday at the Waranch Tennis Complex.

North Texas (5-3) started out on fire winning the first doubles match with Nadia Lee and Franziska Sprinkmeyer on court three, 8-1.

“Overall, we were pleased with the singles play today,” said associate head coach Jeff Maren. “The girls came out a little flat in doubles, but stepped it up late and got the point. Barbora [Vykydalova] and Franziska [Sprinkmeyer] played well in singles after not being the line up recently which proves how deep this team can be.”

Valentina Starkova and Barbora Vykydalova would drop the next match on court one to ULL’s Milou Israel and Briggitt Marcovich, 8-5.

The No. 2 doubles duo of Irina Paraschiv and Kseniya Bardabush would clinch the doubles point with their 8-5 victory.

Singles saw the Mean Green clinch the match by winning the next five singles matches over the Ragin’ Cajuns (1-4).

Paraschiv dominated her opponent on court three with a straight set, 6-1, 6-1 victory, while Sprinkmeyer followed her with her own 6-1, 6-3 win at the No. 6 slot.

“I’m really happy that everyone played well and that we were able to start off our conference schedule with a win,” said Paraschiv. “After playing a shortened match on Thursday at TCU, I’m glad I was able to come out and win the way I did.”

Bardabush, who won her first match in the No. 1 singles slot on Thursday, moved to 2-0 at the top spot with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Sophia van den Aarssen.

Playing No. 2 singles, Starkova would capture the next point by ending her three match losing streak with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Marcovich.

No. 5 singles would bring in the last point for North Texas with Vykydalova taking a third set tie breaker 6-1, 3-6, 10-7.

The Mean Green will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 17 when it travels to No. 33 Arizona.
