Memphis wins as Mavericks miss

The Dallas Mavericks played their worst game of the year in an 89-70 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies Friday night.  The Mavericks shot just 32.4% from the floor and just 19.4% from 3-point range.

The return of Dirk Nowitzki, who had missed 9 straight games due to injury, did little to help Dallas.  Nowitzki shot 2 of 7, getting 7 points in his 15 minutes of playing time.  Nowitzki was ejected in the 3rd quarter after drawing back to back technical fouls.  Nowitzki recognized his poor play, “It’s all right. It’s not great. I don’t think I can really move that much. Just being out there feels good. Being with the guys, I’m trying to lift up their spirits. It’s been down the hill since we’ve had injuries. We’ve pretty much hit rock bottom. We couldn’t get any lower.”

Caron Bulter (out for the season) and Tyson Chandler were inactive for the game.

Ian Mahinmi took advantage of playing for Chandler, making all 6 of his shots from the floor and leading the Mavericks with 17 points, a career high.

The Mavs have lost 8 of the last 10, including 5 in a row.

Dallas stays on the road Monday in Detroit.
