Nadal Ends Season

Rafael Nadal will have his appendix removed in November and will miss the final two tournaments of the tennis season, he said Friday after losing in the Swiss Indoors quarterfinals.

The world’s third-ranked player will miss the Paris Masters next week and the ATP World Tour Finals in London, which begin Nov. 9.

“I’m not going to Paris and London. I’m not competitive enough,” the nine-time French Open champion said, adding that he will have surgery Nov. 3.

Nadal, 28, lost to 17-year-old Croatian Borna Coric 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) in Basel, Switzerland, on Friday.

Nadal missed three months earlier this year with a wrist injury after a fourth-round loss at Wimbledon.

The Swiss Indoors was just the third tournament Nadal had played since Wimbledon.
