North Texas Tennis Defeats South Alabama
|DENTON, Texas -The North Texas tennis team’s 4-1 victory over South Alabama completed its dual-match season on Saturday, giving the Mean Green a record of 10-10.
“This was an important match heading into conference play,” said head coach Sujay Lama. “We had to compete hard against a good team today. The doubles point was huge. Dane and Agustina have great chemistry they found a way to win the deciding doubles point. That gave us the momentum and confidence for singles.”
In doubles play, Dane Joubert and Agustina Valenzuela captured the doubles point with an 8-7 (7-1) win at the No. 3 spot. The junior duo, Kseniya Bardabush and Franziska Sprinkmeyer led the way with a 8-3 win over South Alabama’s No. 1 pair.
Bardabush earned the deciding match point, with her 6-4, 0-6, 6-0 win against Lady Jaguar Michaela Meszarosora.
In singles play, Valenzulea finished first with a 6-4, 6-3; keeping the momentum from doubles going for the Mean Green. Sprinkmeyer was the next point earned for the Mean Green (7-5, 6-2)
The Jaguars only point of the match was from Monica Mitta who defeated Alexis Thoma at the No. 5 spot (6-0, 6-4).
North Texas will head to Norfolk, Va. for the Conference USA championships which begin Wednesday, April 16.
