PGA President Ousted For Comment

The PGA of America removed Ted Bishop as president on Friday after his controversial social media posts aimed at Ian Poulter.

Bishop called Poulter a “Lil Girl” after the European golfer made critical comments in his book about Nick Faldo, who captained the European Ryder Cup team in 2008, and Tom Watson, this year’s American captain.

Bishop compared Poulter’s record to the two and wrote, “Really? Sounds like a little school girl squealing during recess. C’MON MAN!”

The PGA of America board voted Friday to oust Bishop. He had one month remaining on a two-year term.

“The PGA of America understands the enormous responsibility it has to lead this great game and to enrich lives in our society through golf,” PGA chief executive Pete Bevacqua said. “We must demand of ourselves that we make golf both welcoming and inclusive to all who want to experience it, and everyone at the PGA of America must lead by example.”

Bishop apologized to Poulter, but he refused a request from PGA officers to resign.

“The board heard me out and then voted to impeach me,” he said. “That is the due process and I respect that, as painful as it might be.
