Ratliff Doubtful To Return

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Tuesday that injured defensive tackle Jay Ratliff, who is recovering from hamstring and groin injuries, might be placed on injured reserve.

Ratliff is currently is on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. He is eligible to practice this week, but it’s doubtful if he will join the team.

Jones said Tuesday, on his weekly radio program, that a report suggesting Ratliff might not play again this year is accurate.

“There’s no question that’s a possibility here,” Jones said on KRLD-FM. “When you say done in Dallas, I don’t know about done in Dallas, if you look at the rest of Jay’s career, but certainly from the standpoint of this year. We’ve got a situation that’s not positive as to him getting out on the field. We’re gonna see as we get through this week what we’re going to do technically, [about] his roster status.”

The 32-year-old Ratliff has battled injuries since signing a seven-year, $48.625 million contract in 2011. Ratliff hasn’t stepped on the field since training camp.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys cut defensive tackle David Carter and cornerback Chris Greenwood on Tuesday, and signed defensive end Jarius Wynn.

Wynn, a veteran out of the University of Georgia, helped the Packers when a Super Bowl title in 2010.

The Cowboys lost standout defensive end DeMarcus Ware on Sunday to a strained right quadriceps muscle.

The Cowboys also signed running back Davin Meggett to the practice squad. Meggett is the son of former NFL running back David Meggett.
