Roddick still standing

7th seed Andy Roddick advances to the quarterfinals of the BNP Paribas Open with a win over (22) Jurgen Melzer.  Though Roddick is 10-0 lifetime against Melzer, he gives praise to his opponent, “We’ve had a lot of close matches, a lot of matches that I’ve won a first set tiebreaker,” said Roddick. “I don’t enjoy the matchup as much as a 10-0 record would suggest. He’s always tough, and I think there’s definitely a little bit of luck involved there.”

2nd seed Novak Djokovic was not as fortunate, losing to (20) Ivan Ljubicic.  The rest of the top-10 went as expected, with wins by (3) Rafael Nadal, (4) Andy Murray, and (6) Robin Soderling.

In the women’s quarterfinal round, (2) Caroline Wozniacki defeated (18) Jie Zheng, while (5) Agnieszka Radwanska ousted (4) Elena Dementieva.
