Serena Wins 2010 Australian Open

Serena Williams redeemed herself from the loss at the US Open by claiming the Australian Open title in a 3-set battle with Justine Henin.

Williams used her power and determination to overcome a mid-match slump to take the title.  After losing 15 straight points at the end of the 2nd set and start of the 3rd, Williams went on a tear, ultimately taking the final set 6-2.

It is Williams’ 12th major title, tying her with Billie Jean King for the most in the Open era.

Her opponent, Justine Henin, in only her 2nd event back after a 20 month retirement, has a lot to be proud of, “Even if it’s quite soon after the match now, I’m sure there will be a lot of positive things I can think about in a few days. Uhm, it’s been almost perfect. Just the last step, I couldn’t make it. Yeah, it’s mixed feeling at the moment. In a few hours I’m sure it’s going to be much better.”

In the Men’s Doubles final, the No. 1 team of American brothers Bob and Mike Bryan won their 4th Australian Open title, defeating the 2nd seeded team of Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic.
