IRVING, Texas (SMU) — Elena Fayner and Ashley Turpin earned victories for SMU women’s tennis in a 4-2 loss to No. 63 Wichita State at the Las Colinas Country Club on Thursday. This was the fifth win in the last seven matches for Fayner (5-6). Turpin went three sets for her victory to improve to 3-3 on the year.

“We had several outstanding individual performances,” said head coach Kati Gyulai. “However, we must improve on playing much tougher in difficult outdoor conditions. We look to turn it around against ULM this weekend.”

Fayner won 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 against Lucia Kovalova at No. 3 singles. This was her second straight three-set victory. Turpin played at No. 4 singles in her 3-6, 7-5, 10-7 win versus Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul of Wichita State.

At No. 1 singles, No. 56 Edyta Cieplucha fell 7-6, 6-1 to No. 108 Lutfiana Budiharto of Wichita State. Cieplucha is now 14-6 on the year and 8-3 in dual matches.

The Mustangs host Louisiana-Monroe at Northwood Country Club on Sunday at 12 p.m.
