Southlake Carroll Remains Unbeaten

Southlake Carroll Dragons extended their winning record to 6-0 Friday night at Northwest I.S.D. Stadium in Justin, Texas by beating the Justin Northwest Texans 48 to 13. It was a long night for the Texans who were unable to slow down Southlake’s potent air attack. The Dragons had 343 passing yards for the night.

It didn’t take long for Southlake to exert it’s dominance on offense. With only three minutes and seventeen seconds off the clock in the first quarter the Dragons had a 14 to 0 lead. With 5:19 remaining in the first quarter, running back A. J. Ezzard ran 28 yards for another Southlake TD, making the score 21 to 0 at the end of the first quarter.

The Texans put together an impressive drive in the last five minutes of the first quarter and scored their first TD with 11 seconds into the second. This would be their only score in the first half as the Southlake defense only allowed the Texans 12 plays for the rest of the quarter and two of those were punts. On the opposite side of the ball, Kenny Hill (Southlake QB) orchestrated the Dragon’s passing attack which led to three more TD’s in the quarter. Going into half-time Southlake had a 41 to 7 lead.

After Southlake scored with 8:58 remaining in the third quarter (48 -7), the Texans culminated an 80 yard drive with a 12 yard run by quarterback Draze Lawliss. The two-point conversion failed, making the score (48-13) with 3:47 remaining in the third quarter.

Both teams were scoreless in the fourth quarter. Southlake turned the offense over to sophomore quarterback Drew Ahmuty and several other back-ups to gain game experience. The Texans offense struggled against a stiff Southlake defense and only got into Southlake’s territory once in the fourth.

Junior quarterback Kenny Hill, senior receiver Sabian Holmes, and sophomore running back A. J. Ezzard where the offensive standouts for Soutlake. Texan’s junior quarterback Draze Lawliss, demonstrated excellent field leadership during their two scoring drives.

Next week the Southlake Dragons will face their biggest test of the season as they go up against the Coppell Cowboys (5-1). The Cowboys recently lost their starting quarterback for the season and replaced their offensive coordinator, but they will still be a serious threat to end the Dragons undefeated season record.
