The Southlake Carroll Dragons dominated the Midland Bulldogs Friday night in front of a large home crowd at Dragon Stadium in Southlake. Unlike last week, against the Allen Eagles, the Southlake offense was hitting on all cylinders. The Bulldogs traveled a long way from home to face the defending 5A state champions. Unfortunately, their defense couldn’t get a stop and their offense never got on track.

Southlake took the opening kick-off and 36 seconds later scored on a six-yard run by QB Kenny Hill. The Midland defense was no match for the speed and efficiency of the Dragon offense. At the end of the first quarter the Dragons were leading 28 to 0. In the first half, Midland was in Southlake territory only three times. Midland’s best scoring opportunity of the first half ended when QB Connor Beck threw an interception on the Southlake 34-yard line. Southlake scored three more touchdowns in the second quarter and went into the locker room at the half leading 49 to 0.

Southlake starters sat out most of the second half. With less than 8 minutes remaining in the game, Midland recovered at SLC fumble on the Dragon 30-yard line. Three plays later, Nico Francino kicked a 26-yard field goal to put the Bulldogs on the scoreboard. Southlake scored two touchdowns in the second half. The final score was Southlake 63 and Midland 3.

The leading rusher for Southlake was A. J. Ezzard with 89 yards, and Lance White had the most rushing yards (63) for Midland. Southlake QB Kenny Hill completed 22 of 29 passes for 363 total yards. Compared to 93 total passing yards from QB Connor Beck of Midland.

This game was a great confidence builder for Southlake after last weeks lack luster season opener. Midland is a developing team who played with a lot of pride and good sportsmanship throughout the game.
