Stars Edged By Kings

The Los Angeles Kings edged the Dallas Stars 3–2 in overtime on Thursday night, October 23, 2025, at the American Airlines Center, snapping Dallas’ hopes of halting their skid and handing the Stars their fourth consecutive loss.

Overtime Drama

Adrian Kempe played the hero again, netting the winner just 37 seconds into overtime. On the Kings’ lone rush of the extra frame, Quinton Byfield controlled the puck through the neutral zone before finding Kempe in the slot for a one-timer that sailed past Jake Oettinger. The goal marked Kempe’s second consecutive overtime winner, following his game-clincher against St. Louis earlier in the week.

Experienced Touch and Timely Goals

Veteran forward Corey Perry opened the scoring late in the first period, capitalizing on a 5-on-3 power play to notch his first goal with Los Angeles since joining the club as a free agent. Cody Ceci added another Kings tally early in the second, his shot deflecting off a Dallas stick to make it 2–1 just moments after Dallas had tied the game. Goaltender Darcy Kuemper anchored the Kings with 29 saves in one of Los Angeles’ most balanced performances of the young season.

Dallas Fights but Falls Short

For Dallas, the special teams showed flashes of life. Wyatt Johnston and Jason Robertson each scored on the power play, with Johnston also registering an assist and leading the team offensively. Oettinger stopped 22 of 25 shots but couldn’t bail the Stars out in overtime. Roope Hintz contributed two assists, continuing his consistent early-season play.

The setback extended Dallas’ losing streak to four, marking its longest October drought since 2021. Despite generating sustained pressure in the third, the Stars were unable to break through Kuemper’s calm net-minding

Around the Corner

The Kings (4–3–2) continue their five-game road trip Saturday in Nashville, while the Stars (3–4–0) will look to rebound at home against Carolina to close out their homestand.
