TCU W-Soccer Falls To Baylor

WACO, Texas – Baylor scored a pair of first half goals and rode them to a 2-0 win over TCU Friday night at Betty Lou Mays Field. The Horned Frogs got a strong effort in goal by sophomore Vittoria Arnold as she made 10 saves.
Baylor came out swinging in the first half as it took aim at getting the early lead. The early pressure paid off as the Bears took a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute. Bri Campos cleaned up a bouncing ball and shot it from the top of the box to the far post to put Baylor up 1-0.
Vittoria Arnold was busy in the first half as she faced 13 shots, eight of which were on goal. She kept it a 1-0 deficit, giving the Frogs a chance. She reeled in six saves and was helped by the crossbar as Kat Ludlow’s shot off a corner kick bounced out of danger.
Maddy Courvoisier had the first chance for the Horned Frogs as she pushed the ball upfield. Her shot from distance went just wide of the target in the 15th minute.
TCU held strong against the Bears, forcing shots from distance and when the Bears got a shot on goal, Arnold was there to make the save. The Frogs had no defense in the 30th minute as they were whistled for
a handball in the penalty box. Larissa Campos converted the penalty kick to give Baylor a 2-0 lead.
The Frogs best chance to get on the board came in the 35th minute when they earned back-to-back corner kicks. Bobbi Clemmer’s first feed was on target, but the ball ricocheted off a Baylor defender setting up a second corner. Her next feed worked its way to the foot of Madeline Hamm, but her shot was just wide to the near post side.
Arnold came up huge early in the second half as Baylor made a bid to make it a 3-0 game. Lisa Sliwinski made a slick pass to a wide open to Campos. Her shot was ticketed for the upper part of the goal, but Arnold made a leaping punch save to rob Campos of her second goal of the match.
Baylor kept the ball on its offensive half of the field, but Arnold pitched a shutout in the second half, making four saves. Courvoisier collected the Frogs lone shot of the half in the 57th minute, but it was wide of the target.
TCU wraps up the regular season 6-9-3 overall and 1-5-2 in league play. Despite the loss, the Frogs have qualified for the Big 12 Tournament that begins Wednesday in San Antonio, Texas. TCU will be the tournament’s eighth seed and it will face off against league-champion, West Virginia. Match time is slated for 5:30 p.m.
