Texas Open Wheelchair Championships Underway In Coppell

{fshare id=2535}

The 32nd annual Texas Open Wheelchair Championships is underway at the Coppell Wagon Wheel Tennis Center.  This is the longest running event in the history of wheelchair tennis.

This International Tennis Federation event is part of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour and has a purse of $10,000.  Competitors from all over the world attend this event, where athletes with disability compete at all levels in a professionally organized event.

Wheelchair tennis is one of the fastest growing wheelchair sports in the world. The sport integrates very easily with the able-bodied game since it can be played on any regular tennis court, with no modifications to rackets and balls. Wheelchair tennis follows the same rules as able-bodied tennis as endorsed by the ITF, with the only exception being that the wheelchair tennis player is allowed two bounces of the ball.

The event runs May 3-6.  For more information, visit DWTC.org.
